About the Event
WENATCHEE — Wenatchee Row and Paddle Club (WRPC) and Chelan PUD are proud to announce two new murals dedicated to building community through outdoor recreation and the joy of watersports.
The murals are located on the WRPC annex building near Ninth Street and Walla Walla Avenue in Wenatchee. The front of the annex will feature a silhouettes of a kayaker and rower. The mural is in dedicated to Elliot and Tina Scull, founders and supporters of WRPC.
The side of the annex, visible from the Apple Capital Loop Trail, says “See You on the Trail” with silhouettes of runners, walkers, cyclists and walkers and highlights recreation along the riverfront as “another benefit of hydropower”. The District operates its recreational facilities as mitigation for its hydroelectric projects consistent with licenses issued by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
“Our goal is to encourage people to the incredible opportunities we have along the Columbia River, both in our parks and on the water,” WRPC Director Saint Brooks said. The PUD Park manger said he “appreciates the opportunity to partner with the Wenatchee Row and Paddle Club and supports their mission to provide access to the mid-Columbia River and its tributaries for educational, recreational, and completive experiences using human powered watercraft”.
The murals will be painted by Amanda Gibbs and her team at Gibbs Graphics over the next two weeks. The project budget is about $25,000, covered by private donations through the Wenatchee Row & Paddle Club, with Chelan PUD covering a proportionate share for the southern face of the building.
